I’m sitting in the breakfast area of the Academy Hotel in Colorado Springs, CO as I’m typing this blog post. In life we face a lot of different obstacles that I believe God challenges you with to see if you can handle your true potential. In the past month life has showed me a lot of things that I take for granted far too often.
Just last week, my mother in-law’s cocker spaniel Reese had not showed any signs of health issues in the past and on Friday he went in for a shot because of him vomiting. Over the weekend he continued to not be himself and you could really tell that he didn’t feel good. Sadie and I went to visit them after getting her eye pressure done at the Gainesway Small Animal Clinic in Lexington. Sadie and Reese go to the same Vet but have different doctors. If you are looking for a great veterinarian that truly cares about your feelings and is honest with you when you really don’t want them to be. I can not recommend Dr. Sallie enough. We had to put down Lady our other cocker last December and Dr. Sallie was amazing through that challenging period of life.
On Monday, Brenda took him back to the vet and they placed him on a drip to make sure that he was getting the nutrients that he needed because he had been dehydrated over the weekend not being able to keep anything down. Dr. Sallie wanted to get some x-rays of Reese to see if he could see what was causing the problems that seemed to be plaguing Reese. Have I told you how Reese was everything to my mother & father-in-law? My in-laws retired last year and bought a RV and have been snow birds with Reese in Florida as of last year. I tell you all of that to let you know when I say that Reese was Everything to my in-laws, I mean mean he was like their child as many of our furry animals are.
Once the doctor had seen the x-rays and confirmed that Reese did have a serious issue that would result in having to unitize him within in a matter of hours. Once everyone got the news and the facts about what was going on with Reese, we as a family decided to not make him suffer anymore. Reese had been on seizure medicine for several years but had not experienced any other health issues. Once we got the results from x-rays that was performed earlier it showed the masses that had been hurting Reese for years. The x-ray confirmed that Reese had been eaten up with cancer and his liver was gone and the kidneys were about to shut down. The crazy thing is that he never showed any signs of hurting or being in any pain through his regular doctor visits.
Here’s some pictures to show you how great of a life that Reese lived.
